End of the Mine

End of the Mine is the first public release title where I worked as Lead Level Designer with Skirmish Entertainment. It was released on Steam in October 2016 and built within Unity.

My tasks included:

  • Level Design / Game Design

  • Created 2D map layout sketches for each level.

  • Create various stage hazard and scripted events using C#.

  • Manipulate and place AI enemy encounters, level assets, and loot.

  • Game balancing and bug fixing.

With each level, I wanted the player to feel like they are delving further down into the mine, so they were all built with verticality in mind. Below are some early 2D level layout sketches that helped me get an idea of how I wanted these levels to play out.

Unreleased Prototypes

Space Shooter

This space shooter prototype was created in Unity in 2015. It's just one level in which you must collect 80 coins to win. Asteroids block your path and there are one kind that you can destroy while the other you must dodge.

My tasks included:

  • Scripting player controller, score system, hazards, health system, etc. (Using C#)

  • Create artwork and sprite animations for player, asteroids, and laser bullets.

  • Place level hazards and collectibles.

Falling Floors

Falling Floors is a two-player competitive game where you have to force your opponent to fall before you do. The tiles fall beneath you as you walk over them or stay on for too long. This was made in Unity in 2015.

My tasks included:

  • Level Design / Game Design

  • Program player controllers and tile-falling functionality in C#.

  • Sketch out level layout maps for each stage then assemble each level in Unity.

  • Create collectible power-ups such as Speed-Up.

Project Puzzle

Project Puzzle is a puzzle game prototype made in Unity in 2015. The player has to click and drag blocks to create a path for their character to collect an item and reach the exit.

My tasks included:

  • Level Design / Game Design

  • Sketch 2D layouts of each puzzle and implement them in engine.

  • Program player controller, block functionality, and item collection using C#.
